Custurd Apple, Devenahalli Chakkotha, which is almost extinct, Coorg orange, Shivanapura papaya, Cricket ball sapota are some of the rare traditional fruit varieties that were revived through onfarm conservation. Vegetables like Sword bean, Bulb tomato, Green zebra, Gaganamuki chilly, Gomuka brinjal, Mara Bende, Red beans, Madanapalli tomato, Sponge gourd, Manthu kumbal and different varieties of Greens that add to our native seed legacy were almost in the edge of extint.
Traditional vegetables and fruits are now gaining good market demand. In spit of conservation the vegetable and fruits are also sold in our outlets once in a week. Consumers are now demanding for any vegetables that are grown organically, especially greens are at higher demand. This is because the media has played a major role in showcasing the harmful chemical inputs to vegetables causing many health problems.
